  • Campaign: Waterdeep: Dragon Heist
  • Session Title: Session 06 — Masks, Mimics, and the Stone
  • Dungeon Master: Reuben
  • Date: 15/02/2026
  • Setting: Waterdeep (South Ward → sewers/underground rooms → derelict tower → alley ambush → temples → Trollskull Manor)

🧭 Overview

Around ~8pm, the party pushed into a ruined South Ward windmill/tower while tracking the Stone’s trail. The first location was occupied by homeless men (four in the first downstairs room, and ~10 in a second room). Upstairs, they found two halflings—homeless hired help—and intimidated them into admitting the Stone had been moved to a wig shop cellar.

The cellar route dropped the party into the sewers. Eyeless carried Dren through shoulder-high sewage until they found a door leading into underground rooms. Inside, a halfling necromancer and skeletons were fighting kenku. The party third-partied the battle, focusing on the necromancer (Silas used an ice/frozen spell; exact spell not stated). Near the end, two kenku fled—Captain John Mercer pursued with Eyeless close behind, while the remaining party cleaned up the underground rooms.

That “cleanup” spiraled: Slim Jim discovered a large cabinet mimic. Silas managed to convince it back into cabinet form, but Slim Jim spotted an amulet in its mouth and tried to take it—getting his hand stuck, cutting skin off to free himself, then going back in until he finally succeeded. A secret magical door then disgorged a horde of undead corpses; the party lured them into the mimic room, re-aggravated the mimic, and withdrew to regroup with John and Eyeless—who were already confronting the fleeing kenku in a second derelict tower. The night ended with a hostage standoff involving masked children, a fight with three gazers, discovery of an arcane transport circle, a brutal alley ambush (intellect devourer, kobolds in disguise, and a bugbear), Emerald Enclave intervention, temple restoration, and a return to Trollskull around ~1am with the Stone secured.

📍 Key Locations

  • South Ward windmill / ruined tower: First lead location; homeless men inside; two halflings upstairs revealed the Stone had been moved to a wig shop cellar.
  • Wig shop cellar: Entry route that led underground toward the sewers.
  • Sewers: Shoulder-high sewage; Eyeless carried Dren through; led to a door into underground rooms.
  • Underground rooms: Combat zone: halfling necromancer + skeletons fighting kenku; the party third-partied and focused the necromancer.
  • Cabinet mimic room: A “loot/search” area that turned into a crisis when the mimic was discovered and later re-aggravated during an undead surge.
  • Second derelict tower: Kenku pursuit endpoint; hostage standoff upstairs with masked kids; later gazer fight; basement contained an arcane transport circle.
  • Alley outside the Harper contact: Site of the ambush: intellect devourer, ~6 kobolds disguised as masked kids, and a bugbear; Eyeless and Dren were downed here.
  • Temples: Emerald Enclave escorted the party here for restoration/healing; Dren’s intelligence was restored; the intellect devourer was killed (after being inside one of the guards).
  • Trollskull Manor: Returned around ~1am with the Stone secured.

🔥 Session Highlights

  • South Ward windmill/tower sweep at ~8pm: homeless occupants identified; two halfling hired-hands intimidated into revealing the wig shop cellar lead.
  • Sewer route forced: Eyeless carried Dren through shoulder-high sewage to reach hidden underground rooms.
  • Third-party battle: halfling necromancer + skeletons vs kenku; party focused the necromancer; Silas used an ice/frozen spell (exact spell not stated).
  • Two kenku fled near the end; John and Eyeless pursued while the rest stayed behind to finish clearing and searching.
  • Cabinet mimic incident: Silas convinced the mimic to return to cabinet form; Slim Jim attempted to retrieve an amulet from its mouth, got his hand stuck, cut skin to free himself, then eventually succeeded and retrieved the amulet.
  • Secret magical door opened: a horde of undead corpses poured in; the party lured them into the mimic room, re-aggravated the mimic, and withdrew to regroup with John/Eyeless.
  • Kenku intercept at the derelict tower: Eyeless impaled one kenku with a heavy bolt as they entered; the other fled upstairs.
  • Hostage standoff upstairs: A kenku held a knife to one of three human kids’ throats. The kids were wearing troll papier-mâché masks (most likely tied to upcoming celebrations). John threw a pile of gold coins to distract the kenku; the hostage child kicked and ducked out of the way; Eyeless swung his longsword across the kenku’s beak and killed it.
  • Searching the dead kenku: Eyeless recovered the Stone.
  • After regrouping in the tower: three “eye things” (gazers) appeared; the party killed them; multiple of John’s thrown knives went out a window.
  • Basement discovery: an arcane spell circle used for transport was found.
  • Eyeless handled the kids afterward: settled them, healed them, gave them coin, and asked them to watch the building and report if people came and went. (One child had a knife blade in their arm; source not stated.)
  • Silas’s Harper outreach backfired into an ambush outside: intellect devourer attack, ~6 kobolds disguised as masked kids, and a bugbear. Eyeless pleaded for help from shop owners across the alley before being downed; Dren was downed when the devourer jumped to him.
  • Stone handoff under pressure: Eyeless threw the Stone to Slim Jim on a balcony; Slim Jim caught it and escaped across rooftops.
  • Emerald Enclave arrival: four arrived and cast Fireball, clearing many enemies and stabilizing the fight; they escorted the party to temples for healing/restoration; the intellect devourer was killed (after being inside one of the guards).
  • During the chaos: the captured necromancer slipped bonds and Misty Stepped away. Location unknown.
  • End-session intel from the Stone: The Stone of Golorr revealed the Vault of Dragons’ location through a dream, the gold dragon Oranx guards it, and the vault requires three keys to open.
